And all those mini characters are all Dou hwang. And those elders are almost Dou zong as mentioned before and if they share their power, one can reach dou zong level.

the elders can only do that when all three are using that moulan secret beast technique. after one of them died the other two can't transfer their power to make the other dou zong level. In the novel. Xiao yan felt particularly relieved bcos he thought after killing one of them the other too will become mere dou huangs. The spell was meant for three dou huangs
